In 16th Annual Davey Awards, Six for Data Driven Design

What are the Davey Awards?

The Davey Awards were established to recognize and celebrate exceptional work created by small shops in the U.S. and around the world. The goal of the 16th annual awards is to exclusively recognize the work of creative "Davids" who transform big ideas into incredible work without the outsize budget of industry Goliaths. The companies who win awards create innovative, well-executed projects across a wide variety of categories including:

  • Online Advertising and Marketing
  • Non-Broadcast
  • Online Film/Video
  • Commercial
  • Websites
  • Digital Content
  • Integrated Campaign
  • Branded Entertainment
  • Mobile

Judging

The Academy of Interactive and Visual Arts (AIVA), an invitation-only group of industry experts judges the work products. Their membership is comprised of acclaimed media brands and companies like "Spotify, Majestyk, Big Spaceship, Nissan, Tinder, Conde Nast, Disney, Microsoft, GE Digital, JP Morgan, PGA Tour, Wired, and many others."

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year saw fewer companies considered - down by about a thousand - compared to last year's awards. While Data Driven Design received its first-ever award in 2019, we submitted work in additional categories this year as our client list and work products have expanded in the time between.

Two Silver Awards for Cascadia Vehicle Tents

This year, Data Driven Design tackled a design and development project for Cascadia Vehicle Tents. Previously, we had only done the web development part (design provided by a previous partner) of a project with them, so we were excited to be able to help with the comprehensive re-design for the updated site. This year's work transitioned the site off of a headless Magento + Craft CMS foundation, to fully Magento 2 with additional integrations incorporated. For this work we received Davey Awards in two categories:

  • Websites - Shopping
  • Websites - Automotive

Silver Award for Integrated Healthcare Staffing

Integrated Healthcare Staffing's new web design and development also received recognition in the Websites - Employment category. We're extremely proud of being able to have helped this Portland company refresh their website and add new functionality just before COVID-19 hit. Luckily, we were wrapping up the final touches just as they began to see increased demand in their area of expertise - health care staffing.

Silver Award for EC3

Our last award in the Website's category was for a website design and development project we completed for EC3, an executive-level consulting company. As part of the project, we consolidated several small websites into one, updated branding, and created custom icons and graphics for the website. The DDD team designed a simple, modern look and built the backend with Craft CMS. We received a silver award for the website in the Small Business category.

Silver Award for Polaris

Our final work was for in a category that we have grown into in the last year: Corporate Identity - Package Design. This was one of our first projects where we had a client that specifically needed packaging created for a product line and we were truly invigorated by this work - which helped up flex our creative muscles in a new way. In addition to packaging, we have helped Polaris develop a marketing & content strategy, filmed a brand video, updated its website, and more.

Gold Award for Demand Link

Last but not least, Data Driven Design received its first Gold Award at the Daveys for design work completed for Demand Link. We loved helping create a cohesive design system for their reporting product, cleaning up an outdated interface with a fresh look. This final award was also in an entirely new category for us: Design & Print Collateral - Other.

The Data Driven Design team was surprised and gratified by the recognition received at this year's Davey Awards. We've loved working on new creative projects, creating original concepts, and building functional websites for our many new and on-going clients.
